On her recent trip to Peru, Brooke was able to conduct an inspection of Orient Express‘s new property, Las Casitas del Colca, and she came away confident that it will be Peru’s most deluxe property when it opens in March. It is located in Colca Canyon, the second-deepest canyon in the world – twice the depth of the Grand Canyon! Colca Canyon is famous for its resident condors, and it is not unusual to see several of the prehistoric-looking birds gliding on the wind currents overhead – with a typical wingspan of about 9 feet, it is a breathtaking sight indeed. Las Casitas del Colca will have 20 private villas, each with a heated stone floor, fireplace, and hot tub on a private balcony overlooking the valley. All of the food will be organic and grown on site – guests will literally be able to pick their dinner and then have it prepared by a gourmet chef. Brooke predicts that Las Casitas del Colca will quickly become a popular place to relax for a few days and adjust to the altitude before heading to Cusco.
