Q: I’m going to Africa for the very first time later this year. What are the “must see” highlights for a first-timer?
A: The things that I don’t think anyone should miss are a safari in the Kruger area, a trip to the Winelands region, time in Cape Town, and a visit to Victoria Falls. See our “Introduction to South Africa” tour online for the basic trip and then consider adding various components.
Q: I want to see the Great Migration. When and where should I go?
A: You actually want to go to Kenya and Tanzania, not South Africa! The best time to see the Great Migration is between mid-June and early September. Check out our “Migration Spectacular” tour online for an idea of how to structure a trip like that.
Q: I’m traveling to Africa with my 78-year-old father and I want to include some unique experiences before we start our safari. He loves good food and wine. What would you suggest?
A: Definitely include several days in the Winelands region. From a base at the gorgeous La Residence, you can spend two days visiting some of the lovely Cape Dutch wine estates, enjoy chocolate and cheese tastings, and go to dinner at a few of the top restaurants in South Africa. He will love it, I promise!
Q: What is the best time of year to go on safari in South Africa?
A: Cape Town and the bush have opposite weather so be prepared to experience several seasons in one trip. If the safari is the most important part of this trip, I recommend that you go between late May and October.
