HUGE ATTRACTION

China is now building the world’s tallest observation wheel to be completed as soon as in 2009. 686 feet high, the Beijing Great Wheel will allow visitors “an unsurpassed view of the city”. In the game of progressing hugeness, this $300 million giant will beat its gargantuan siblings in Singapore and London. Rides will last about 30 minutes, and each of its 48 air conditioned capsules will carry up to 40 passengers. On a clear sunny day – which maybe a rare occasion, considering that visibility in the Chinese capital is sometimes reduced to just a few miles by its notorious air pollution – it is expected that people will be able to see the Great Wall of China. The super-wheel was originally due to begin turning on August 2008, at the start of the Olympic Games, but there had been delays due to design issues.
